Book Review: The Fault in our Stars

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

Plot Summary:

This story unfolds between the main character Hazel, who is terminally ill and the pleasant surprise of a character, Augustus. They're connected through a cancer support group and their shared knowledge is deep. They have both faced illness and and aspects of potentially dying. This story is beautifully and brutally heartbreaking.

Critical Analysis:

This book is a beautiful example of Contemporary Realistic Fiction because it encompasses the changing and vulnerable experiences and feelings of young people. Whether they be in extreme situations or not, it is a tumultuous time. This story is enchanting because it is surprising turn of events in a bad situation which makes it so much more intriguing. The reader is pulled in wanting to know what happens and how the story unfolds between these characters. One of the most appealing and inspiring topics of YA is love. And the intensity of this story does not disappoint. Just like most contemporary realistic fiction novels, the dialogue is typical for this demographic and due to this, the story flows nicely.
